Our two man delivery team (Andrew & John) will deliver over 5300 magazines across Arlesey, Stondon & Henlow. It’s no mean feat and after a gruelling nine hour day our delivery boys are ravenous! To celebrate the launch of the new magazine we decided to treat ourselves to a slap up feed at The Crown pub in Henlow.
The Crown is pretty pub, full of traditional character and charm with exposed beams and open fireplaces, but also has many contemporary touches giving it a fresh, modern feel. Once inside we were immediately greeted by our friendly host and we were kindly ushered to our table. Our waitress, called Katy, soon arrived with menus at hand. It certainly has a relaxed and calming atmosphere and we were immediately offered drinks and time to unwind whilst perusing the tempting menu.
The menu at The Crown is excellent, with a wide range of options catering for all tastes, including starters, sharers, burgers, traditional mains, and a daily special board which also includes the Josper Grill which offers a daily selection of meat cuts and fish. There’s also a fine array of desserts and an extensive cheese board. It’s entirely up to you, you can eat light or you can eat big!
Andrew ordered the thyme and garlic half roast chicken with baby spring vegetables and fondant potato. John ordered from the special board, the pork and herb meatballs, tagliatelle in a fresh tomato sauce with parmesan. The roast chicken was perfect with vegetables cooked just right, with just the right amount of bite to them. The pork meatballs were succulent, almost melting in your mouth. We both agreed, the food was absolutely delicious.
For dessert Andrew opted for ice cream, a 3 scoop combination of raspberry and chocolate, whereas John ordered a large cappuccino. After our meal we had the opportunity to talk with Jo, the duty manager and also Scott, the head chef. It was great to talk to them about the pub, the menu and the food. We also discovered that the pub offers accommodation with 5 stunning bedrooms available to rent. We were also keen to find out more about the ‘Bottomless Brunch’ which is available on Saturday morning, a two course brunch menu, tea or coffee, plus bottomless booze. Now that is tempting!
